A Huge Thank you to our parent community

We are constantly reminded of the great support we receive from our parents and community supporters. The tools and opportunities that are made available to us do much to enhance learning and bring us together. Thank you on behalf of all of us.

School Photo

Next Thursday, we will be taking a whole school photo. The photographer will take the picture at approximately 1:00pm. This will be a casual photograph of all of us together.

First half of May in Review

Math News!

Last week, a number of students completed this year’s last Caribou Competition task. This week, our Grade 7 and 8 students wrote the Gauss (University of Waterloo) test. We are building a culture of confidence in mathematics. Many thanks to both Damion Ketchum and Ashley Chang for supporting our efforts.

Eco Club News

Inspired by the Little Free Library boxes in the Beach, our Eco club has launched a new book exchange program. The idea is to take a book from these carts, located outside our school office, and put one in from home in its place. What a wonderful way to share great books.

A few water bottle filling station has been installed.

Ms. Banfai and Mr. Brown’s Grade 6/7 classes were lucky enough to enjoy a presentation from Navigation Officer Banfai (Ms. Banfai’s brother!) who works for the Canadian Coast Guard. He is a 3rd Officer on the Sir Wilfrid Laurier which sails out of Victoria, British Columbia. Some of his duties as 3rd Officer include charting routes (which involves lots of math!), instructing the helmsman where to go, ensuring the ship stays on route, and maintaining watch on the bridge. Officer Banfai gave an engaging presentation on his role in the Coast Guard and the role of the Coast Guard in Canada.  He discussed the Coast Guard’s role in the Finding Franklin Expedition as well as their responsibility to maintain a presence in the Arctic to ensure no illegal activity takes place. The students were especially thrilled with the videos of a polar bear and porpoises that were taken from the ship. A big thank you goes out to Navigation Officer Banfai for his presentation!

Mental Health week

Our fantastic Mental Health committee created wonderful activities for our students as we continue to promote well-being. Thank you for this important work.

Track and Field News

There has been much activity of late regarding track and Field activities. Congratulations to our athletes and thank you to the coaches. Next Friday is a big  day. Please follow Ms. Roberstson’s blog for up to the minute news.
