November  2017

Dear Courcelette Families:

Today we launch our annual support of the Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre (“BBNC”) to assist families within our local community.  For almost 20 years, Courcelette families have worked with the BBNC to support neighbouring families during the holiday season.  Last year our school donated diapers and laundry soap valued in excess of $6,000, plus an additional $1,950 funds raised from our annual “Santa’s Breakfast.”

The BBNC Share365 Program (formerly known as the ‘Adopt-A-Family’ Program) provides personal hygiene items, household cleaning products, and other daily necessity items, as well as Good Food Boxes, program subsidies, and skills development workshops for many qualifying families in need in our neighbouring community throughout the year.  You can learn more about Share365 at:  http://www.bbnc.ca/share365.php

In the coming weeks, we would appreciate your involvement to continue Courcelette’s tradition of  supporting BBNC in anticipation of the holiday season:

  • Share365 – Our school has offered to donate diapers (in newborn through adult sizes) family-size bottles of unscented, liquid laundry detergent, as well as adult toothpaste to support BBNC, who will provide these items to families in need and will substantially help the centre in the work that they do.

You will find a list of items (on the next page) that we hope each class is able to contribute, however we hope that all classes can offer to help other classes if items are still required.  This is a whole school effort! We thank you in advance for your support!

  • Santa’s Breakfast – Saturday, December 9th in the school gym.  Details of this annual program will be sent home separately.  Net proceeds from this event are donated by Community Council to BBNC.
  • Mitten Tree  –  Our annual Mitten Tree (located in the school, main doors area) will be for new and gently used winter items, including mittens, gloves, scarves, snow pants and coats.  These donations will be directed to the BBNC for distribution.  Please decorate our tree with donations between Nov. 27 – Dec. 9 (Santa’s Breakfast).
  • Gift Donation- If your family wishes to donate a toy for a child, please bring in a wrapped new toy labelled with boy/girl and the age it is intended for.  All donations will be given to BBNC or another local charity in need.

Please consider supporting these initiatives so that we can all work together to support the BBNC.  You can also make a monetary donation directly to the centre.  Be sure to specify that your funds are to be applied to the Share365(Courcelette) program: https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/birchmount-bluffs-neighbourhood-centre/

These cash donations will be put to use to assist their families with such items as providing a sporting activity for a child, sending a parent back-to-school, and fresh food boxes.

Thank you for supporting Courcelette’s annual BBNC Donation Drive.

Sincerely,

Courcelette Community Council
