Dear Courcelette PS,
I hope everyone enjoyed the Family Day Weekend. For those who celebrated the Lunar New Year, I wish you a healthy and prosperous year of the dog. February is a busy month for many reasons such as: Grade 8 course selections, trips, celebrations, and report cards. As we continue to support each other in our school community, through the challenges and celebrations, I want to thank all of the staff, students, and families that work diligently to ensure we are here for each other in the most meaningful ways.
This week we can look forward to:
February 21, 2018: Marlies Game Trip for Ms. Moore, Ms.Banfai, Ms. Fletcher & Ms. Wilkins classes
Kindergarten Trip to AGO
February 22, 2018: School Council Meeting 7 to 8:30 pm
February 23, 2018: Pizza Lunch
Last week many parents/guardians volunteered in the Primary classes to assist with celebrations to honour a variety of days of significance during the month of February. We were very fortunate last week to hear from the Burundian Drummers from William G. Miller. Thank you to Ms. Fletcher for organizing the presentation. I am sure you heard at home how loud the drums proved to be and how fascinated students were by the talents of peers.
Last week, we also benefitted from the support of parent volunteers to help us ensure the smooth running of the Caribou Math Contest.
Our sports teams continue to thrive and most importantly, our students continue to love setting goals and working towards achieving them. Thank you to our coaches and community supporters!
The following is from Ms. Laverne:
Girls 5/6 Volleyball: On Tuesday, February 13, 2018 the girls played a volleyball tournament at G.P. Mackie P.S. They did an incredible job working together and supporting each other throughout the tournament. They won both games against Poplar Road and G.P. Mackie, which was very exciting to watch. They continue to make improvements and they are thrilled to be moving on to the quarter finals. Way to Go Girls!!!! All of the coaches (Ms. Laverne, Ms. Banfai, Ms. Toner and Ms. Martin) are extremely proud of all of them. The quarter final match will be against North Bendale at Courcelette on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Wish us luck! 🙂
Lastly, I want to express what a wonderful time I had travelling with our Grade 8 students to Quebec City (February 6 – 9) and their teachers, including Ms. Wilkins, Ms. Fletcher, and Mr. Knight. What a pleasure to get to know your children even better and to create wonderful memories together.
At one point we (8 of us in snow tubes) sat atop a large mountain. My confidence soared as the students assured me, “Ms. Gillan, this is going to be awesome!” and so it was – awesome!
Thanks again for surprising me and keeping me on my toes Courcelette Family, feels like we’re on top of the world!
