8 More Days! Summer vacation is almost here and we are looking forward to celebrating the culmination of a school year that saw us embrace a Growth Mindset with input from engaged students, contributions from parent partners, and the continued full commitment of staff.
For this week and next, please keep in mind the following:
Tuesday, June 19th: 6 pm the Grade 7/8 MARS Mission Expo in conjunction with Blantyre PS. Visit the gym at Blantyre PS to see hydraulic arms built by students attached to their Mars Rovers!
Check out this video to catch a glimpse behind the learning experience. We are incredibly thankful that we have a STEM lab to provide many of Grade 7/8 students with such rich hands-on learning experiences. In the next academic year, the Grade 7/8 teachers will be utilizing a rotary model to ensure equitable access to the lab for all of our 7/8 students. Integrated STEM studies are a great “launching pad” for making real world connections in terms of math, science, design, and technology. This learning experience is another aspect of what makes Courcelette PS unique. Thanks to the Courcelette PS Community Council, this year we added a 3-D printer to THE LAB.
Wednesday, June 20th: FROZEN TREATS for sale. Back by popular demand! Students have voiced their delight and we’ve listened. Bring $2.00 and you can buy a Dairy-Free, Nut Free Sorbet Cup. We had some leftovers from our last day of sales, however the demand for more was so high we re-ordered.
School Council Meeting 7 pm to 8:30 pm. Located in the gym. Childminding in the library.
Ensure you attend to vote on the 2018-2019 budget and to hear from the New School Addition Team (NSRT) about progress to date regarding school improvement plans.
Thursday, June 21st: Staff Appreciation Luncheon. The staff and community will be gathering in the outdoor classroom area (tables – North-East corner of the school yard) to celebrate. This is a tradition here at Courcelette PS and we couldn’t be more thankful for the partnership teachers and parents develop in order to support the learning of every child.
Friday, June 22nd: Pizza Lunch & Sharing Assembly
It’s Rainbow Day! Classes have been assigned a colour, we plan to make a human Rainbow in the school yard in order to support each other and our community.
Each class has been assigned a colour to wear. If you don’t have that colour, wear as much of another solid colour listed.

Here are some of the things we’re doing in TDSB to recognize Pride Month 2018:
- Sharing curriculum resources with all schools
- Encouraging all schools to raise the Pride flag on their flag pole or hang in the school
- Join the Pride flag raising at 5050 Yonge at 4 pm on Wednesday, June 6 – Everyone is welcome!
- Celebrating the winners of the Director’s Gay-Straight Alliance Awards (applications remain open until June 8th)
- Participating in the city’s Toronto PRIDE 2018 Parade on Sunday, June 24 – Everyone is welcome!

Wednesday, June 27th: PLAY DAY. Our Grade 7 leaders (future leaders of CPS) will assist teachers with a fun filled agenda! (There is a meeting Wednesday June 20th @ lunch Grade 7s!!!!)
On Wednesday, June 27 in the afternoon our Kindergarten to grade 7 students will be participating in our school Play Day. We will be separating the students into colour teams and rotating them through a series of exciting activities that the grade 7 students have helped to plan and organize. Your child will come home later this week with an assigned colour to wear on the day of the event. This colour will identify the group that they will spend the afternoon with. Students are encouraged to wear sunscreen, a hat, proper footwear (running shoes or closed sandals), and an article of clothing representing their colour group. Fingers crossed for a beautiful day for our big event.
Thursday, June 28th: Reports go home. Your child will receive their end of year report card as well as an end of year letter advising their class assignment for September 4th, 2018. Please remember, this assignment is subject to change based on re-organization of classes during the month of September. As well, teacher assignments are subject to change during the summer break.
