Thank you students, parents/guardians/caregivers and staff for a wonderful first week back to school. Staff and students are off to a great start, there is a wonderful sense of community among our current staff and students. It’s a pleasure to see community members in the yard and hear about summer adventures and plans for the coming school year.

As part of our Back to School activities we held two assemblies to review rules and routines. We also kicked off our Anti-Bullying Campaign – BE UPSTANDING! For Primary students we discussed what to do when you have a problem that needs adult support. For our J/I students we watched a student produced video about being an “upstander” verus a bystander. The conversations will continue over the coming weeks and months as we emphasize respectful behaviour, and what is means to be UPSTANDING in academics, athletics, and leadership at Courcelette PS.

Picking Up & Dropping Off Students

Please remember when picking up and dropping off students, there is absolutely no parking or stopping, or dropping off in the staff parking lot. Please obey the posted signs and the speed limit. Be careful not to rush. Give yourself plenty of time to get to school. The BELL rings at 8:40 AM. Students should be on the grounds BEFORE the first bell. Staff are on-hand to supervise beginning at 8:30 am.

Thank you for helping your child to be punctual and for helping us to keep our students safe.

Safe Arrival & Daily Attendance

Attendance is taken immediately following morning and afternoon entry. We also take attendance for lunch.

If your child is going to be late or absent, please call the school at 416-396-6185. You can leave a message any time of the day. Please provide your child’s name, teacher, date, and reason for leaving the message. ONLY parents or legal guardians may call.

If you receive a call from the Safe Arrival System, follow all of the prompts and do not hang up before the message is finished. Please ensure the office is up to date with phone #s so that we can reach you promptly.

Anaphylaxis and Life Threatening Allergies

Sabrina’s Law requires every school to establish and maintain an anaphylactic policy that includes strategies to reduce the exposure to anaphylactic causative agents in classrooms and common areas. We have a number of students and staff who carry an EPI-PEN and must avoid foods including (put not limited to) NUTS, PEANUTS, & DAIRY. As such we are an allergy aware school. Students should never bring nuts or food containing any nuts to school. Any food spills should be reported to an adult immediately. Please reinforce the importance of NOT sharing foods at school and eating only what has been provided from home. Thank you for keeping everyone at Courcelette PS safe.

Volunteers

We have many volunteer opportunities at Courcelette PS. Some volunteers read with younger students, assist during excursions, and pizza lunches. The school council always needs help with events like Fall Fest & Santa’s Breakfast.

If you are interested in volunteering please let Ms. Hepner know. For those of you who have volunteered in the past, please ensure you complete your Annual Offence Declaration.

Have a great 2ndweek of school.

Sincerely, Ms. Gillan
